Travel is not only a beautiful experience, it is also tremendously healthy. The list of things that are fun and healthy is too short, but travel is, thankfully, one of them. Travel disrupts our routine and introduces novelty to the brain, which improves cognition and helps reactivate reward circuits.

The cognitive flexibility helps stimulate neuroplasticity. This, in turn, can help generate creativity and innovation. Besides being a literal escape where you can focus on your own enjoyment, it is a welcome change of pace that helps reduce your body’s stress hormone overdrive.

Traveling makes you truly realize how big the world is, how much beauty and variety there is and that we are part of something bigger than we would otherwise imagine. Even if we spend a few days in a certain place, we realize that every day, every moment, counts.

These benefits last even after we come back to stressors at home, they help maintain a “zen space” we can revisit whenever you need. Mindfulness techniques often recommend returning to a beautiful or peaceful memory to help restore calm and balance anywhere you are.
